TimeSys says its embedded Linux toolsuite is now available with Freescale-developed 2.6 Linux kernels optimized for 27 processors across five PowerQUICC and PowerPC chip families. TimeStorm Linux Development Kits (LDKs) include chip-optimized kernel and drivers, target images, and TimeSys's Eclipse 3-based TimeStorm Linux Development Suite (LDS).

TimeSys says its LDKs for Freescale chips were produced through Freescale's participation in its OnBoard program. TimeSys launched the program in March, with participation from ARM and MIPS, and Freescale and Intel joined days later. The program enables semiconductor IP vendors and chipmakers to collaborate with TimeSys on testing, certifying, and distributing embedded Linux kernels, enabling them to back up their in-house Linux implementations with commercial support. The program also provides TimeSys customers with access to the latest vendor-developed Linux enhancements, TimeSys says.

TimeStorm LDKs include a processor-optimized 2.6 kernel and drivers, customizable target filesystems, and the Eclipse 3.0-based TimeStorm Linux Development Suite (LDS) cross-development environment.

Newly available LDKs resulting from Freescale's participation in the OnBoard program include:

David Mothersole, CTO of Freescale's networking and computing systems group, said, “Linux is becoming an operating system of choice for an increasing number of designs using Freescale processors, and the TimeSys OnBoard Program provides embedded developers with a commercial source for Freescale-developed Linux.”

TimeSys CEO Larry Weidman said, “TimeSys is pleased to bring to market many new Linux Development Kits optimized for Freescale processors less than 60 days after Freescale joined the OnBoard Program.”
