Timesys announced an alliance with Logic Embedded Product Solutions to support Logic's System on Modules (SOMs). LinuxLink software subscriptions are initially available for Logic's i.MX27 and i.MX31 SOMs and related “Zoom LV” development kits, which are based on the Freescale… system-on-chips (SoCs).

Formerly called Logic Product Development, or LogicPD, Logic specializes in building development boards that are typically distributed by silicon vendors as part of evaluation kits and development kits. In addition to Freescale, Logic's silicon partners include Marvell, NXP, and TI, it says.

TimeSys says its LinuxLink subscriptions offer access to regularly updated Linux components, including an optimized kernel, device driver suite, GNU toolchain, initial root filesystem, and about 500 pre-compiled glibc/uClibc packages. Eclipse-based development tools are optional.

The first available LinuxLink subscriptions for Logic boards support Logic's i.MX31 SOM (pictured above) and i.MX27 SOM. The former serves as a development board for Freescale's i.MX31 SoC, while the latter supports the i.MX27 announced last June.

Stated Michael Erickson, director of software products for Logic, “The professional development tools and support for Linux allows customers to evaluate the Logic SOM capabilities and develop their solution with less cost and risk.”

Availability

The LinuxLink subscriptions for Logic's i.MX27 and i.MX31 SOMs are available now, says Timesys. Additional Logic SOMs will be supported by LinuxLink subscriptions later this year, says the company.
