London — (press release excerpt) — Thirdspace, a specialist in broadband TV enablement, announced the appointment of Holger Ippach as Head of Product Management, client solutions. Holger Ippach was previously the chief technology officer for [embedded Linux supplier] Tuxia GmbH (Augsburg, Germany). At Thirdspace, Ippach will be responsible for broadening the scope of the Open Video Client (OVC) product line, which provides standard connectivity to video servers for client devices like TV set top boxes and personal computers.

Thirdspace OVC supports Linux and Windows based operating systems and provides connectivity to standard RTSP video servers for MPEG1, MPEG2, and MPEG4, with full VCR functionality and remote client management tools. Consistent with Thirdspace's open standards approach, OVC is fully compatible not only with the leading video server manufacturers like Concurrent, nCube and SGI, but is also used by a wide range of TV set top box vendors and for high resolution video services to the PC. OVC was originally part of the former Oracle Video Server product line, which Thirdspace acquired in October 2002. Thirdspace markets and licenses separately OVC to set top box vendors and the Open Video Server solution (OVS) to video server vendors.

Ippach holds a Masters' degree in applied physics from the University of Augsburg and since 1998 has worked for leading software development companies. Before co-founding Tuxia GmbH in 2000 and becoming the CTO, he was the Managing Director for a data centre and worked in various leading software development functions. He will be based in the Thirdspace offices in Maidenhead.
