A founding Open Handset Alliance (OHA) member is hosting two webinars about porting applications to Google's Linux- and Java-based Android SDK. Java stack and services provider Esmertec says its Jbed Java Virtual Machine (JVM) can serve as a bridge between existing Java ME (Micro Edition) applications and the Android environment.

Zurich, Switzerland-based Esmertec plans to discuss its participation in the OHA, provide background on the Android SDK (software development kit) and promote Jbed JVM as a way for Android developers to achieve compatibility with the Java ME world. The company says it plans to offer customization services and technology extensions for Android developers, in addition to developing its own Android products.

Aimed at mobile operators, handset manufacturers and developers interested in Android, the webinars will be given at 9:30 CET (Central European Time) and 18:00 CET (12 Noon EST) on Nov. 22. They will be hosted by Esmertec's Jean-Luc Gianduzzo, EVP Global Services, and Karl Piteira, director of partnerships. Esmertec's registration page is here.
