Wind River will host three seminars focused on Linux's growing presence in the device software market, and on the trend toward migrating from legacy real-time operating systems (RTOSes) to Linux. The keynote talk at each of the three seminars will be given by “Linux pundit” (and OSDL employee) Bill Weinberg.

According to Wind River, “Industry experts say that nearly thirty percent of all intelligent device applications will be developed on the Linux platform this year.” Topics covered in the seminars, according to Wind River, will include:

• How to streamline the migration process from legacy RTOS to open source
• Issues device software developers should consider in roadmap decisions, including cost, time-to-market, hardware support, performance, application-specific resources, and IP protection
• A complete overview of Linux migration options, including development tools, embedded Linux platform choices, and open source technology, educational, and community-based resources
• Trade-offs between various paths
• An understanding of the ecosystem for Linux device software applications
