Terra Soft Solutions, Inc. (Loveland, CO) has literally rolled out the iDitarod, a “portable” PowerPC Linux cluster. Well, at 150 pounds, it's not something you'd carry around with you. But a set of four heavy-duty wheels makes it at least as easy to move around as a well-stocked shopping cart.

An 8-node version of Terra Soft's new PowerPC-based wheelable Linux cluster measures roughly 20″ on a side and stands 24″ tall (including its 4 wheels). The device, which includes a high-performance 100 megabit managed switch, is also available in 8, 12, or 16 node rack-mount versions.

The logic boards are offered with G3 or AltiVec enabled G4 chips ranging in speeds from 333-500 MHz, up to 1 MB cache, and 128-512 MB RAM on each node. iDitarod may be ordered with Yellow Dog Linux, Black Lab Linux, or even Mac OS 9 pre-installed and running within Mac-On-Linux.
