XScale development platforms gain Linux support
Sep 6, 2002 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — viewsPittsburgh, PA — TimeSys Corporation and ADI Engineering Inc. today announced a partnership through which TimeSys Linux has been named as the exclusive Linux distribution for ADI's family of XScale development platforms. Together, TimeSys and ADI will provide end-to-end embedded Linux solutions for the design, development, and rapid deployment of next generation data communications, networking, and… high-performance embedded applications of the Intel XScale microarchitecture. The ADI platforms offer a combination of dual Ethernet ports, PCI and PMC expansion slots, and unmatched sustained memory bandwidth.
In coming months, TimeSys and ADI will supply a complete Linux product suite specifically for ADI's BRH and Quinque platforms. This suite starts with providing Linux developers with a targeted SDK as a solid supported product, including an end-to-end embedded Linux development environment, a complete Linux distribution with over 190 Linux packages and utilities, the industry's lowest latency, fully preemptible Linux kernel, Linux cross-platform and board hosted GNU toolchains, complete “to the edge of the board” set of certified device drivers, user and API documentation, and loadable kernel modules that convert TimeSys Linux into a fully featured Real-Time Operating System (RTOS). Additionally, TimeSys brings all the Linux tools needed for OEM's to create new value, such as TimeStorm, a Windows-hosted IDE with cross- platform capabilities; TimeTrace, a Windows-hosted target platform for event tracing, timing analysis and visualization tool; and TimeWiz, a Windows-hosted real-time analysis and simulation tool.
