Embedded Systems Conference, San Jose CA, — Ziatech Corporation is combining its CompactNET multiprocessing technology with the recently announced LinuxPCI 1000 Development System, speeding the implementation of Linux-based, multiprocessing CompactPCI (CPCI) systems, it was announced today. Original equipment manufacturers on the fast-track to develop Linux-based applications for DSL systems, PBX systems, IP telephony, voice processing, and other telecom and Internet equipment, now have an open architecture platform designed with the bandwidth, reliability and features those applications require.

Fast-track multi-computing platform features Hard Hat Linux from MontaVista

The CompactNET version of the LinuxPCI 1000 comes ready to run MontaVista's Hard Hat Linux, an embedded version of Linux with the reliability and responsiveness required for applied computing applications. A pre-tested kernel of Hard Hat Linux comes with each system, and includes a 90-day service and support contract with MontaVista Software.

The new CompactNET multiprocessing option on the LinuxPCI 1000 adds one or more peripheral master CPUs (based on the Intel Pentium II processor) to the standard LinuxPCI 1000 configuration, which incorporates an Intel Pentium II processor, core peripherals, cooling and power, in a 10U high, 19-inch rackmount enclosure. Each processor is capable of running its own copy of Linux, and communicates with other processors over the CompactPCI backplane through standard network protocols.

Multiprocessing environment includes Linux driver source

The CompactNET multiprocessing technology developed by Ziatech increases system performance while reducing development time by integrating CompactPCI hardware, standard OS support such as Linux, and standard networks software protocols. Ziatech makes the source code for its Linux drivers available for free, via a download from Ziatech's CompactNET Open Source Forum web site at http://www.compactnet.com.

Ziatech has released the CompactNET source code drivers for Linux to foster the standard interoperability of CompactPCI multi-computing solutions from different vendors. This effort is designed to complement the work of the PCI Industrial Computer Manufacturers' Group (PICMG) 2.14 Multi-Computing Sub-committee, chaired by Ziatech.
