iBase Technology is shipping a Via-based mini-ITX board that supports Linux. The MB720 uses the same chipset used in newer Via mini-ITX boards, and is available with an LVDS module supporting 4:3 and 16:9 LCD displays. It targets industrial, gaming, medical, digital entertainment and other applications
Arcom is shipping an EBX format SBC (single-board computer) supporting a range of mobile Intel processors, from a 600MHz Celeron M to a 2.1GHz Pentium M. The Apollo uses Intel's 855GME chipset, and is available with a Linux BSP (board support package).
Arcom is shipping a new PC/104 carrier board for telemetry and M2M (machine-to-machine) applications. The Web-Telemetry (wireless embedded baseboard for telemetry) supports several cellular modems and GPS receivers, and the board includes a wide voltage-range power supply that can run a PC/104 processor board.
Ecutel Systems used Linux in its first hardware product, a VPN server line with a unique “roaming” feature. The NxG Linux Appliances runs the company's Viatores Server Software, said to enable mobile users to roam seamlessly between networks, while preserving network security and enterprise application sessions.
Aplix Corporation will integrate several 2D and 3D graphics standard implementations from Hybrid Graphics into its Java platform for mobile phones and devices. The partnership will bring Hybrid's OpenVG, SVG, JSR 266, M3G (JSR 184), OpenGL ES, and JSR 239 implementations to Aplix's JBlend product.
QuickLogic and Intel will present an online seminar about using PC components such as hard drives and Wi-Fi radios in mobile embedded devices. The free seminar, set for May 4, will discuss Intel's PXA processors, as well as QuckLogic's intelligent programmable bridges.
Fujitsu Microelectronics America (FMA) is shipping an SoC (system-on-chip) targeting WiMAX broadband wireless access (BWA) equipment for metropolitan area networks (MANs). The MB87M3400 targets base stations and subscriber access equipment, and can be used in equipment carrying up to 75Mbps of data, Fujitsu claims.
In this interview, Stuart Cohen, CEO of the OSDL (Open Source Development Labs), discusses the OSDL's goals, initiatives, projects, and test facilities, and how the growing prominence of embedded Linux interfaces with the organization's goal of being the “center-of-gravity” for Linux.
