Moblin moves to second alpha

Ming phone gains larger screen

Photos and preliminary specifications for an “A1210” Linux phone that appears to be an updated version of the popular Motorola Ming have appeared on Chinese technology sites. The GSM/EDGE-ready A1210 (pictured) offers a larger 2.8-inch screen, and an improved 3.1 megapixel camera, industry reports say. (more…)

Seagate is readying a four-bay network-attached storage device for small businesses that runs embedded Linux and stores up to 8TB. The hot-swappable BlackArmor NAS 440 offers an iTunes server and DLNA-compliant media server, RAID 0/1/5/10, dual gigabit Ethernet ports, and four USB ports, says Seagate. (more…)

First ever Linux botnet?

The first botnet designed for broadband equipment and routers may also be the first involving Linux, says our sister publication, eWEEK. Archos spins netbook, but bring your own Linux

Archos has released its first netbook, based on a Linux-compatible Hasee design, but offers it with Windows XP only. The “Archos 10” has a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 processor, 160GB hard drive, a 10.2-inch display, WiFi, and 1GB of RAM, according to the company. (more…)

Linux STB design tapped in Russia

Belarus-based device-design firm Promwad announced a design win for a Linux-based DVB-T set-top box (STB) destined for a Russian manufacturer of TV antennas. The digital terrestrial STB design will be built around an ST Microelectronics (ST) STi5205 system-on-chip (SoC) clocked to 266MHz, says Promwad. (more…)

Fashion robot runs real-time Linux

Emulator tapped for Android-to-N8xx port

A “NITdroid” hacker has released code that enables desktop computers to emulate Nokia Internet Tablets running Android. Philippe Coval has posted a video showing his “NITdroid-emulator” working alongside a new version of Qemu, running the open-source NITdroid Android-to-N8xx port on a Linux desktop. (more…)
