Signage PC boasts high reliability
Mar 23, 2009 — by Eric Brown — from the LinuxDevices Archive — 6 viewsIbase Technology is shipping an embedded x86-based computer for digital signage applications. The SI-24S includes an AMD Sempron 210U clocked to 1.5GHz, as well as an ATI E2400 GPU (graphics processing unit), and supports dual independent 1080p displays with VGA, DVI, or HDMI interfaces, says Ibase.

The slim, 1.2-inch-high SI-24S can be wall-mounted or used as a desktop, says Ibase. Touted for its high reliability, the system incorporates a segregated-flow thermal design that is claimed to prevent the accumulation of contaminants. Meanwhile, a 1.5mm aluminum chassis and dual redundant Maglev (magnetic levitation bearing) fans make extended operation reliable, the company says.

AMD's 1.5GHz Sempron 210U is supported on the SI-24S by up to 2GB of DDR2 memory, and the ATI E2400 graphics processing unit (GPU) supplies its own 128MB of GDDR3 discrete video. The device is equipped with a 2.5-inch bay for a hard disk drive (HDD), or an optional solid-state drive (SSD), and ships with gigabit Ethernet, optional WiFi or TV tuner, four USB 2.0 ports, and dual DVI-I outputs. The latter are also said to support HDMI and VGA displays, apparently via external adapter cables.
