MSC Vertriebs announced a COM Express Type 2 module that supports Intel's Celeron M or Core Duo processors. The CXB-GM45 offers up to 8GB of DDR3 memory, supports dual independent display modes, and provides gigabit Ethernet, USB, PCI-e, SATA, and EIDE interfaces, the company says.

The CXB-GM45 ships with either an Intel Core 2 Duo T9400, clocked at 2.53GHz, or the Intel Celeron 575 clocked at 2GHz. Unlike MSC's previous Intel-based COM Express modules, such as last June's CXB-CD9455, the 4.9 x 3.7 inch CXB-GM45 offers integrated dual-channel DDR3 memory via dual SODIMM sockets, accepting up to 8GB, according to the company. By comparison, the CXB-CD9455 topped out at 2GB of RAM.

The new module offers Intel's GM45 northbridge and ICH9M southbridge, with the former providing the Mobile Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD functionality. The 4500MHD supports Intel Clear Video Technology, as well as DirectX 10 and OpenGL 2.0, says MSC. The CXB-GM45 drives dual displays via the 4500MHD's dual independent display mode, and supports CRT resolutions of 2048 x 1536 pixels, the company adds.

Connectivity includes a gigabit Ethernet interface, eight USB 2.0 interfaces, five PCI Express x1 lanes, and a single PCI Express x16 (PEG) interface. Four SATA II channels offer up to 300Mbps throughput, and an EIDE port supports further storage needs.

Specifications listed for the CXB-GM45 include:

  • Processor — Intel Core 2 Duo T9400 (dual-core 2.53GHz, BGA soldered) or Intel Celeron 575 (2GHz, PGA socketed)
  • Chipset — Intel GM45 (GL40 with Celeron version) with integrated Mobile Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD
  • Memory — up to 8GB DDR3 SDRAM (2 x 4GB, dual channel SODIMM sockets)
  • Expansion — PCI Express x16 (PEG) support; 5 x PCI Express x1 lanes
  • Storage - 4 x SATA-300 storage interfaces; 1 x EIDE port
  • Networking — Gigabit Ethernet interface
  • Display — LVDS interface (24-bit, dual channel); CRT interface with resolutions up to 2048 x 1536; dual independent display support
  • USB — 8 x USB 2.0 interfaces
  • Audio — HD audio interface
  • Other features — Infineon TPM 1.2; Phoenix SecureCore BIOS; system monitoring; watchdog timer
  • Dimensions — 4.9 x 3.7 inches (125 x 95mm); COM Express Type 2
  • Operating system –Windows Vista, Windows XP Embedded, Linux

Evaluation baseboards are available for development support on Linux, Windows Vista, and Windows XP Embedded platforms, says MSC. The company is said to offer additional design services for application-specific motherboards.
