800 MHz PPC PrPMC SBC embeds Linux
Mar 4, 2003 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — 7 viewsForce Computers has announced a tiny — but powerful — computer module that is based single or dual 800 MHz PowerPC 750FX processors and is built to the “processor PCI mezzanine card” (PrPMC) form-factor (5.9 in. x 2.9 in.) specification. The module comes with ready-to-use support for operation under either embedded Linux or VxWorks.
Other key features of the PowerPMC-270 include dual independent Gigabit Ethernet (GigE) ports, up to 2 GBytes of SDRAM, and support for both PrPMC “monarch” and “nonmonarch” modes of PCI bus operation.
According to Force, the new module delivers “supercomputer performance,” and is “ideal for demanding industrial control and communications applications such as high-density computing clusters, semiconductor test equipment, metro area network ATM/IP Layer 3 switches and other demanding industrial control and communications applications.”
“The compact footprint processor module provides a scaleable, cost-effective control or data plane processing solution . . . for deployment on proprietary, CompactPCI, PICMG 2.16 or AdvancedTCA form-factor-based carrier boards,” said Dave Berry, Force product marketing manager.
