In January, RadiSys expects to ship an AdvancedTCA server that handles shelf management in software on telecom switches, freeing up an extra slot for “revenue generating services,” the company says. The Promentum Sys-6000 runs Carrier Grade Linux, and targets TEMs (telecom equipment manufacturers) building products such as call centers, HLR/VLRs (home/visitor location registers), authentication servers, and SGSNs (serving GPRS support nodes).

The Promentum Sys-6000 is an integrated Carrier Grade Linux blade server platform housed in a 12U chassis, that offers a common architecture for 19-inch, 23-inch, and 535mm rack widths. It is available with single, dual-, or quad-CPU blades, offering up to 144 CPUs per 19-inch, 42U rack. Integrated SAN (storage area network) capabilities based on 2Gbps fiber channel make the device ideal for storage-intensive applications, Radisys says. The device's switch supports eight Gigabit Ethernet uplinks, to support large server systems spanning multiple shelves.

RadiSys lists the following integrated components for the Promentum Sys-6000 family:

• Promentum ATCA-1000 — Universal PMC Processing Module, enabling diverse applications such as signaling, softswitches, and application media servers
• Promentum ATCA-2100 — Switch and control Module for GbE and Fibre Channel switch fabrics
• Promentum ATCA-3000 — Disk Storage Module for Fibre Channel storage applications
• Promentum ATCA-4000 — Compute Processing Module for general purpose application processing through dual Intel Xeon CPUs
• Promentum ATCA-6000 12U Chassis — three fit in a standard 42U telco rack
• Promentum Sys-6000 ATCA Blade Server Platform software — includes Carrier Grade Linux, shelf management and HPI libraries, support for high availability, and blade/switch management

Availability

The Promentum Sys-6000 is expected to ship in January.
