San Clemente, CA — (press release excerpt) — The RTC Group has issued a call for papers for the Embedded Linux Expo & Conference (ELEC) scheduled for October 8-10, 2001 in Boston, MA.

As the embedded Linux market continues to gain strength, RTC is taking the new and expanded conference format to Boston. The Embedded Linux Expo & Conference returns to Boston with a full day of conferences and exhibits, October 9th; plus two days of Technical Tutorials on October 8th and 10th. This event and its “sister” events in Milan and San Jose are dedicated to open source in the embedded markets. This event will feature exhibits from leading software and hardware vendors, conference presentations selected by our Technical Chair, Kevin Dankwardt and technical sessions supporting novice through advance needs.

ELEC technical presentations are to be given by Chief Technology Officers (CTOs), or equivalent senior technical experts, and should focus on technical issues associated with integrating Linux and Linux-related technologies into embedded system applications. Priority will be given to selecting presentations that offer immediate technical value to the attendees and assist in better understanding issues, challenges, processes, and techniques that can be used to successfully and rapidly develop Linux-based embedded systems. Suggested topics include . . .

  • Development of Board Support Packages for Embedded Linux Platforms
  • Scaling Linux to meet embedded system resource constraints
  • Moving legacy embedded code to Linux
  • Graphical user interface considerations and options
  • Satisfying the real-time response requirements of real-world applications
  • Non-stop operation for critical systems
  • Considerations and techniques associated with embedding Internet connectivity
  • Using Flash memory in Linux-based embedded devices
  • Taking advantage of post-PC alternatives to the “x86” architecture
  • Case histories from actual projects based on embedded Linux
  • Combining Java with Linux
  • Using host-based tools for embedded Linux development
  • Open-source business models

Product pitches or product-related presentations are not accepted.

Abstracts of proposed presentations meeting the above criteria are to be received by August 17, 2001 via email to the ELEC Technical Conference Chair, Kevin Dankwardt.
