The SCOPE Alliance has released version 1.2 of its “Linux Profile,” aimed at guiding NEPs (network equipment providers) toward interoperable implementations of the Linux Foundation (formerly Open Source Development Labs) Carrier Grade Linux specification. Additionally, SCOPE has updated its “Technical Position Paper” aimed at describing NEP requirements to Linux developers.

SCOPE was founded in January of 2006, by Alcatel, Ericsson, Motorola, NEC, Nokia, and Siemens. Today, it boasts 20 members, including embedded Linux specialist Wind River and virtualization specialist VirtualLogix. Red Hat has also claimed compliance with SCOPE specs, although it has not joined the organization.

SCOPE says its new v1.2 Profile specification describes and prioritizes the requirements in the Linux Foundation's recently launched Carrier Grade Linux Specification 4.0.

Meanwhile, v1.1 of SCOPE's technical position paper, “Closing the Gaps of Open Carrier Grade Base Platforms,” contains adjustments to the Alliance's reference architecture, and refines its areas of near-term emphasis, SCOPE said.

Scope's v1.2 Profile release today follows upon last November's v1.1 release, and the original v1.0 release last June.
