Rugged, fanless vehicle PC runs Linux

Acrosser has introduced a compact, fanless computer aimed at the harsh environments found in trucks, taxis, and other vehicular applications. The AR-ES0831FL runs Linux on Pentium and Celeron M processors, and meets IEC-68-2-6 vibration and IEC-68-2-27 shock standards, according to the company. (more…)

Massively multicore processor runs Linux

A startup founded by an MIT professor claims to have “solved the fundamental challenges associated with multicore scalability.” Tilera's first products include a 64-core Tile64 SoC (system-on-chip), PCIe Express add-in board for networking and video-processing applications, multicore-optimized Linux libraries, and an Eclipse-based multicore development environment toolset. Multi-country roadshow promotes embedded Linux

MontaVista and Freescale, together with U.S. and European distributors, will jointly promote their products and services in a 23-day technical road show this fall. Running from Sept. 4 through Nov. 15, the tour will demonstrate MontaVista's Eclipse-based tools along with a Freescale chip family aimed at networking and pervasive computing. (more…)

Linux V2IP stack ported to DaVinci

Trinity Convergence has ported its Linux-based voice- and video-over-IP (“V2IP”) stack to the Texas Instruments DaVinci RISC/DSP architecture. The company says its VeriCall V2IP stack offers device makers proven software for videophones and surveillance/monitoring equipment requiring hi-fidelity audio and H.264 video. (more…)

Microsoft seeks OSI approval for “Shared Source” licenses

ARM devcon slated for October

The fourth annual ARM Developers' Conference will be held in Santa Clara from October 2nd through 4th. Show organizers promise a “rigorous 3-day regimen” with more than 120 technical sessions, along with an expo showcasing products such as ARM-based SoCs (system-on-chip processors), embedded boards, and development tools. “Free” Linux SDIO drivers available soon

A vendor of PCI-to-SD (secure digital) bridges will offer a free binary-only Linux SDIO driver stack in October. Jinvani Systech said its JSMIMC stack will include SDIO bus and SD/MMC storage drivers for Linux 2.6, along with a driver for its SD Gold PCI-to-SD card. (more…)

Embedded Linux stack, tools support TI DaVinci

A small Canadian company specializing in hardware/software reference designs for handheld Linux devices has introduced a Linux OS stack and software development kit for Texas Instruments's (TI's) DaVinci processors. Empower Technologies claims that its LDK6446 (LEOs development kit) includes the first available LCD touchscreen support for TI's DM6446 development board. (more…)
