Multi-country roadshow promotes embedded Linux

MontaVista and Freescale, together with U.S. and European distributors, will jointly promote their products and services in a 23-day technical road show this fall. Running from Sept. 4 through Nov. 15, the tour will demonstrate MontaVista's Eclipse-based tools along with a Freescale chip family aimed at networking and pervasive computing.

The tour will include half-day technical sessions in 10 North American and three European cities, along with hour-long sessions in another 10 European locations. The free, technically-oriented sessions will discuss the tradeoffs between Linux and RTOSes (real-time operating systems), and help attendees evaluate Linux's real-time capabilities. The sessions will also include live demos of MontaVista's Eclipse-based DevRocket tools used with Freescale's PowerQUICC II Pro (MPC83xx) processor family, MontaVista said.

MontaVista last month shipped a BSP for Freecale's MPC8349E-mITXE (pictured at right), a mini-ITX form-factor development board based on the MPC8349E processor, the fastest chip in Freescale's PowerQUICC II Pro processor family.

Alongside representatives of MontaVista and Freescale, representatives of distributors Avnet and EBC Elektronik will take part in the road show.

MontaVista CEO Tom Kelly stated, “Hundreds of companies design devices with MontaVista Linux on Freescale processors. Our Embedded Linux World Tour seminars will show developers in nine countries the reasons for this popularity.”
