Windows CE stalwart takes a walk on the Linux side

Windows CE stalwart Bsquare is shipping a Linux version of its SDIO stack, saying the move could double product revenue. The “SDIO Now!” stack supports MMC (multimedia card) and SD (secure digital) storage devices, as well as SDIO (secure digital input/output) peripherals like cameras and GPS, WiFi, and RFID radios. Panasonic forms embedded Linux incubator, seeks collaborators

Panasonic Ventures has opened an embedded Linux incubator at its Digital Concepts Center in San Jose, Calif. The Technology Collaboration Center (aka Linux Collaboration Center) hopes to host and collaborate with four or five consumer electronics Linux startups, in exchange for first right-of-refusal on up to 10 percent of the startup's next institutional funding round. Embedded Linux Bluetooth stack goes EDR

Extended Systems is shipping a new version of its off-the-shelf Bluetooth stack and developer kit for embedded Linux. The kit comprises Linux 2.4 module source code implementing the Bluetooth protocol stack and various profiles. HA middleware targets multiprocessor and distributed systems

Enea is showcasing new off-the-shelf high-availability (HA) middleware targeting multiprocessor and distributed embedded systems in the telecom, automotive, industrial control, and medical instrumentation markets, at ESC this week in Boston. “Element” is available now for Enea's OSE RTOS (real-time operating system), and will ship next spring for embedded Linux, the company says. LynuxWorks touts, teaches secure Linux solutions at ESC

LynuxWorks will demonstrate secure embedded Linux implementations, and teach courses in embedded security, at ESC in Boston this week. The company says its LynxSecure Separation Kernel can run embedded OSes like Linux in supervised user-space partitions, and was designed for EAL-7 certification — the highest level of embedded security possible. Trolltech expands board amidst IPO rumors

Trolltech has appointed two mobile industry vets to its board of directors, leading Reuters to surmise the privately held company may be primping for an IPO. New Trolltech board members include Juha Christensen, formerly of Microsoft and Psion/Symbian, and Tod Nielsen, also a former senior manager at Microsoft. (more…)

Real-time Linux claims single-digit microsecond responsiveness

FSMLabs will demonstrate its real-time Linux operating system delivering single-digit microsecond timing on 64-bit dual-core AMD Opteron processors, at ESC this week in Boston. The company says its RTLinuxPro, Carrier Grade RTLinux, RTCore real-time nano-kernel, and Eclipse-based development tools (currently beta testing) all support “a wide range” of AMD processors. MontaVista, Wind River slighted in August, analyst says
