800 MHz PPC PrPMC SBC embeds Linux

Force Computers has announced a tiny — but powerful — computer module that is based single or dual 800 MHz PowerPC 750FX processors and is built to the “processor PCI mezzanine card” (PrPMC) form-factor (5.9 in. x 2.9 in.) specification. uClibc 0.9.19 is released

ISS discovers Remote Sendmail header processing vulnerability

Internet Security Systems (ISS) X-Force reported today that it has discovered a buffer overflow vulnerability in the Sendmail Mail Transfer Agent (MTA). Sendmail is the most common MTA and has been documented to handle between 50% and 75% of all Internet email traffic, ISS said. (more…)

Linux TCP/IP protocol stack defect report available

GNU X-Tools update expands ARM support

(PR excerpt) — Microcross today released GNU X-Tools ARM / Thumb Toolsuite v3.2, which now supports all ARM variants. This GNU distribution is the latest stable toolsuite based on GNU GCC v3.2 and is derived from the standard distribution of GNU tools, which supports more hosts and target processors than any embedded development toolsuite in existence. Study shows embedded developers favor 32-bit CPUs, VxWorks, Linux

Electronic Times Asia reports that 46% of embedded developers are currently using 32-bit microprocessors in their designs and 55% plan to use them in future projects, according to a recently completed study entitled Embedded Systems Development Trends: Asia. Additionally, 31% of the developers polled are currently using VxWorks and 21% percent are using Linux, the study indicated. (more…)
