COM Express module has Atom E6xx CPUs, optional flash disk

Congatec announced a COM Express module that includes Intel's Atom E6xx processors and support for a -40 to 185 deg. F operating range. The Conga-CA6 includes up to 2GB of soldered-on memory, an optional solid state disk up to 32GB, and support for dual displays, according to the company.

Like the Deggendorf, Germany-based company's similarly named Conga-QA6 (a Qseven module), the Conga-CA6 offers Intel's Atom E6xx processors, which have TDPs ranging from 2.7 to 3.9 Watts. This time around, however, a COM Express Compact form factor has been employed, with a footprint of 3.75 x 3.75 inches.

The CA6 supports all eight flavors of the E6xx, including the 0.6GHz, 1.0GHz, 1.3GHz, and 1.6GHz models, as well as the extended temperature "T" variants for each clock rate. And, while a selling point of the E6xx is supposed to be its compatibility with third-party I/O controllers, the Congatec product is like all other E6xx devices released to date in that it employs the usual Intel Platform Controller Hub EG20T.

Equipped with up to 2GB of soldered-on DDR2 memory, the Conga-CA6 is available with an SATA-interfaced SSD (solid state disk) in sizes up to 32GB, according to Congatec. The company adds that dual independent displays may be connected, LVDS devices offering up to 1280 x 768 pixels and SDVO devices offering up to 1920 x 1080.

Congatec did not describe the Conga-CA6's pinout, but it appears that this is a Type 2 COM Express device, since support for a 33MHz PCI bus and EIDE is cited. (The Type 6 pinout drops both of these in favor of supporting digital display interfaces, USB 3.0, and additional PCI Express lanes.)

According to Congatec, the CA6 has two PCI Express x1 lanes, two SATA ports, one SDIO interface, and six USB 2.0 ports. The device also includes gigabit Ethernet and a high-definition audio interface, the company adds.

Specifications listed for the Congatec Conga-CA6 include:

  • Processor — Intel Atom E6xx (all models) from 0.6GHz to 1.6GHz
  • Chipset — Intel PCH EG20T
  • Memory — up to 2GB of onboard DDR2 memory; optional SSD up to 32GB
