TurboLinux says it has added online storage capabilities to its combination PMP (portable media player) and personal Linux boot device. The “Wizpy” device will soon gain support for network-based file storage, thanks to a deal with third-party storage service provider… Omnidrive.

One of the oldest Linux distributors, TurboLinux has traditionally focused on enterprise desktop and server markets in Japan and India. Last December, it introduced the Wizpy, a DivX-, MP3-, Ogg-, AAC-, and JPEG-compatible PMP with a 1.7-inch OLED (organic light-emitting diode) display. The Wizpy doubles as a USB boot device pre-loaded with TurboLinux, similar to the original Shinco Medaillon, a much smaller portable music player that could boot PCs into Mandrake Linux.

TurboLinux said its collaboration with Omnidrive will enable Wizpy users to:

• Access their files from anywhere
• Download files to the Wizpy to work offline
• Easily share and publish large multimedia files, such as photos and/or video files

The Omnidrive service for Wizpy becomes available today, according to TurboLinux. Pricing was not disclosed.

Other Linux-based computing devices that integrate with online file storage services include Zonbu's Zonbox and Thinteknix's Chimp, which targets Indian language users.
