Online retailer and embedded supplier Logic Supply has added two small, Intel-based systems to its catalog. AOpen's MiniPC MP945 and Digital Engine DE945 support Intel Core 2 Duo processors clockable up to 2GHz, run Linux, and target embedded and small form-factor computing.

Both the MP945 and DE945 are based on boards slightly smaller than the popular mini-ITX standard. Both have Intel 945GM chipsets with 667MHz front-side buses, and both support Socket M (479-pin) processors that include Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile, Core Duo, Core Solo, and Celeron M. .

The hobbyist-oriented MP945 is available in single quantities. It weighs three pounds and measures a compact 6.5 x 6.5 x 1.97 (165 x 165 x 50mm), and features a consumer-friendly hinged lid. It appears to offer only two USB 2.0 ports, both brought to the back panel.

The DE945, meanwhile, targets OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) and resellers, and is available only in “project” quantities of 1,000 units or more. It weighs 2.4 pounds, and has a simple, industrial-looking case measuring 6.5 x 6.3 x 1.9 inches (166 x 160 x 48mm), slightly smaller than that of the MP945. It features four USB 2.0 ports — two on the back panel, and two on internal pin headers.

Except for the differences noted above, the systems appear to have similar specifications, including:

Roland Groeneveld, Logic president, stated, “Our customers now have more options for embedded applications such as digital signage, mobile computing, point of sale, kiosk, and industrial automation. Linux and Windows Embedded developers should see the multimedia and performance capabilities that these systems offer.”

AOpen VP of Marketing Chris Liu added, “Our MiniPC product was selected by CRN as one of the top ten products at the CES show.”

The MP945 is available now direct from Logic, priced at $425 to $1,100, depending on processor, memory, hard drive, and build/test/express delivery options. It includes an A/C adapter, DVI to DVI/VGA splitter cable, S-Video to YPbPr/S-video splitter cable, manual CD, media center remote with batters, and an S/PDIF converter.

The DS945 is available now from Logic in “project” quantities of 1,000 units or more. Pricing was not disclosed.
