Mini PC offers dual-core processors

Aug 2, 2010 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — 3 views

Stealth Computer announced what's claimed to be its smallest mini PC ever, packing Intel Core 2 Duo processors rather than the Atom that might have been expected. The LPC-100 includes up to 4GB of RAM, 500GB of hard disk storage, VGA and DVI-D video outputs, three USB 2.0 ports, two serial ports, and two PS/2 ports, the company says.

Stealth Computer's LPC-100 is said to be the company's smallest mini PC ever, and is shown at right being dwarfed by the LPC-450 (released in 2007) sitting below it. Measuring 6.1 x 4.0 x 1.45 inches, the device is said to accept dual-core processors including Intel's 1.9GHz Celeron T3100, 2.26GHz Core 2 Duo P8400, or 2.53GHz Core 2 Duo T9400.

According to Stealth, the LPC-100 uses the GM45 northbridge and ICH9M southbridge, and it supports up to 4GB of RAM via two DIMM slots. Power consumption, with the T3100, is said to be 31 Watts under full load and 15 Watts while idling.

Stealth says the LPC-100 has room for an internal SATA hard disk drive, offered in capacities from 160GB to 500GB, or an optional SSD (solid state drive). There are apparently no further internal expansion options, but the device has three USB 2.0 ports, two on its front panel (below left) and one on its rear panel (below right).

As can be seen above, the LPC-100's front panel also sports a headphone jack, two serial ports, and a microphone input. The rear panel, meanwhile, adds a gigabit Ethernet port, a DVI-I video output, and two PS/2 ports, along with the device's 12VDC power input.

According to Stealth, the LPC-100 also includes a VGA port and a six-pin IEEE 1394a port, the latter capable of supporting 400Mb/sec. transfer rates. We can't see where these ports are located, however, so buyers particularly interested in VGA and FireWire connections should check with the company for further details.

Stealth says only that the LPC-100 supports Windows 7 and XP Professional, but the device should also support other x86 operating systems, such as Linux.

Features and specifications listed for the LPC-100 by Stealth include:

  • Processor — 1.9GHz Celeron T3100, 2.2GHz Core 2 Duo P8400, 2.53GHz Core 2 Duo T9400
  • Chipset — GM45 northbridge and ICH9M southbridge
  • Memory — up to 4GB of DDR3 RAM via two SODIMM slots
  • Storage — SATA hard disk drives from 160GB to 500GB, or SSD
  • Networking — 10/100 Ethernet
  • Other I/O:
    • 3 x USB 2.0 (2 front, 1 rear)
    • 2 x RS232
    • audio — mic in and headphone out
    • 1 x DVI-I
    • 1 x VGA
    • 1 x IEEE 1394a
    • 2 x PS/2
  • Power — 12VDC via 84 Watt AC adapter

  • Dimensions — 6.1 x 4.0 x 1.45 inches (155 x 102 x 37mm)
  • Weight — 1.2 pounds

Ed Boutilier, CEO of Stealth, stated "The LPC-100 offers more processing power per square inch than any of the small form factor computers we have built to date. This full-featured machine utilizes the latest Intel Core 2 Duo mobile processor technology, outperforming most of today's desktop and mobile PCs, and it does so in a fraction of the space."

Further information

The LPC-100 is available now, starting at $995 for a version with the 1.9GHz Celeron T3100, 2GB of RAM, and a 160GB hard disk drive. Further information may be found on the Stealth Computer website, here.
