Draft 4 of POSIX and Single UNIX Spec enters review period

Aug 3, 2000 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — views

Draft 4 of the joint revision to POSIX and the Single UNIX Specification, being produced by the Austin Group, is now available for review and comment. The Austin Common Standards Revision Group (CSRG) is a joint technical working group established to consider a common revision of ISO/IEC 9945-1, ISO/IEC 9945-2, IEEE Std 1003.1, IEEE Std 1003.2, and the appropriate parts of the Single UNIX Specification.

Draft 4 is the first feature complete draft of the specification. Concurrent IEEE and ISO balloting will take place on this draft. Draft 4 totals some 3,600 pages (XSH+XCU+XBD=3308, XRAT=279). There is an eight week review period that began August 1 and concludes at 8:00 am UK time, on Sept 27. A plenary review meeting is being held during the week of October 9 to process the comments from the Draft 4 review period.

Further information about the specifications and instructions on how to download copies are available here. Comments should be sent to the review reflector and should use the aardvark comment format (info here).
