San Francisco and Tokyo — (press release excerpt) — ACCESS Co., Ltd. introduced AVE-Blue, a wireless communication protocol stack for embedded information appliances based on the Bluetooth version 1.1 specification. By seamlessly integrating with ACCESS NetFront browser, AVE-Blue can be used to easily create a wireless network for devices such as PDAs, car navigation systems and digital cameras. By using the OBEX (Object Exchange) application protocol, the wireless network can exchange NetFront browser data, such as address books, bookmarks and e-mail.

ACCESS will demonstrate a wireless network using the AXIS 9010 Bluetooth Access Point from AXIS Communication AB and browser installed reference terminal using the Hitachi SH-3 and CSR BlueCore chips at the Embedded Systems Expo and Conference (ESEC) in Tokyo.

AVE-Blue offers a convenient development environment for first-time Bluetooth application developers. By developing applications with Visual C++, engineers can speed new applications to market by emulating the environment on a PC. Moreover, the test work required to use the official Bluetooth logo is simplified with the TCI test control interface. AVE-Blue further speeds Bluetooth application development with its intelligible APIs, sample applications for each profile, and configuration features for selective profile implementations. AVE-Blue offers the following functions and features:

• Supports Bluetooth v1.1
  
• Supports core profiles of HCI, L2CAP, RFCOMM, SDP and TCSBIN
  
• Supports 12 protocols GAP, SDAP, CTP, ICP, SPP, HSP, DUP, LAP, GOEP, OPP, FTP and SNY (all except FAX)
  
• Compact stack core (requires 60KB ROM and 5KB RAM)
  
• CPU and OS independent [compatible with Embedded Linux]
  
• Works on these CPUs: Hitachi SH7709A and StrongARM 1110
  
• Works with these controllers: Ericsson EBDK/EBSK (Uart) and CRS BlueCore01 (BCSP)
  
• Works with these operating systems: Hitachi ITRON HI7700 and micro-MORE v4.0)

ACCESS has participated as an associate member of the Bluetooth SIG (Special Interest group), which has 2491 participating
companies worldwide.

According to Allied Business Intelligence, shipments of Bluetooth-enabled devices are projected to reach over 1.4 billion in 2005. Bluetooth is expected to be designed into a wide variety of applications for information transfer, electronic banking, vending and Internet access.

An early access version corresponding to Bluetooth v1.0B+CE has already been released. AVE-Blue v1.1, corresponding to Bluetooth V1.1, will start shipping in August in Japan and in 2002 in the US. ACCESS intends to get Bluetooth logo certification by the fourth quarter of 2001. ACCESS offers consulting to integrate and customize AVE-Blue.
