Lineo Solutions will bundle a suite of enhanced GNU toolchains with its embedded Linux development kits for ARM-based processors. Lineo's uLinux Elite development kit will use CodeSourcery's G++ toolchain, including its C/C++ compilers, binutils, and gdb, according to CodeSourcery Inc.

CodeSourcery says its “G++” GNU tool builds add quality and convenience, along with commercial support and regular updates. Additionally, the toolchain is available with processor-specific optimizations and extensions for some processors.

Lineo's uLinux Elite IDE (integrated development environment) supports specific processors and boards through BSP (board support package) plug-ins. Plug-ins are available for a range of embedded processors and boards, including many based on SuperH and ARM processors. The company joined the ARM Connected Community three years ago.

Lineo CEO Kenji Futatsugi stated, “As the Japanese market shows very high interest in the ARM architecture, Lineo considers it as one of the major CPU architectures that we support.”

CodeSourcery's “chief sourcerer,” Mark Mitchell, stated, “CodeSourcery's development tool expertise and Lineo's Linux kernel expertise are clearly complementary.”

Availability

CodeSourcery's enhanced G++ tool chains are available now, for ARM and ColdFire. Mitchell also hinted last week that a MIPS release might be forthcoming.

Tokyo-based embedded products and services vendor Lineo Solutions has sold its uLinux Elite IDE (integrated development environment) in Japan for many years.
