Embedded Linux service provider hires sales VP

The Pittsburgh-based embedded Linux developer services provider announced that Greg Quiggle, formerly of Tollgrade Communications, will start immediately as VP of sales and marketing.
Quiggle spent six years as VP of marketing for Tollgrade Communications, which sells line-testing systems used by phone companies to pre-qualify DSL subscribers, and to test, monitor, and troubleshoot broadband line performance. Quiggle also worked previously at Acterna Corporation, another communications test and measurement company that was acquired in 2005 by optical communications firm JDSU.
Quiggle is the first executive hire that TimeSys has announced since April, when it hired Atul Bansal as CEO. Also a veteran of the telecom industry, Bansal formerly served as COO of Laurel Networks, which sold Linux-based telecom equipment prior to being acquired for $88M in 2004 by Israeli telecom giant ECI.
TimeSys formerly marketed its own Carrier Grade Linux distribution aimed at telecom equipment. However, the company dropped its “distro” business model about two years ago, in order to focus on LinuxLink, its Web-based subscription service for embedded Linux developers who are creating and maintaining their own custom Linux distributions.
Today, with the exception of Performance Technologies, few if any telecom equipment providers maintain their own Carrier Grade Linux distributions, instead typically partnering with third-party providers such as MontaVista, Wind River, or Asianux. Debian and Red Hat are also popular in telecom systems.
The LinuxLink service is said to provide on-demand access to continuously updated, cross-compiled Linux packages and components optimized for various specific processors and architectures. It is optionally available with Eclipse-based development tools.
Of Quiggle, Bansal stated, “Greg brings a strong emphasis on customer and partner relationships.”
