[Updated 6:00pm PDT] — An embedded Linux service provider in California has acquired a similar provider in New Hampshire founded by LinuxPPC guru Dan Malek. Embedded Alley Solutions will retain Malek as “permanent CTO,” and will market its personalized development services in the US and select European cities, it says.

Malek has more than 20 years of embedded real-time technology and management experience, including work on Arpanet, Space Shuttle telemetry communication, telecommunications, automotive control systems, and audio/video processing. He began using Linux in 1996, when he ported LinuxPPC to Motorola's embedded processors. His extensive professional services background includes running a regional design center in New Hampshire for MontaVista. Malek founded Embedded Edge in 1999.

Embedded Alley was founded in 2004, and offers product engineering, project management, hardware development, and software development. Its Linux-related services include toolchain, driver, application, and boot ROM development, it says.

Embedded Alley CEO Pete Popov says Embedded Edge founder Dan Malek will serve as “permanent CTO” of the merged organization. “With Dan joining as CTO, we continue to build an engineering team with unparalleled embedded Linux skills,” Popov said.
