Embedded PC offers choice of Nano or Eden CPUs

Sep 2, 2011 — by Eric Brown — from the LinuxDevices Archive — views

Win Enterprises announced a fanless, embedded box computer designed to use Via Technologies' Nano or Eden processors, ranging up to a 1.3GHz Nano. The PL-80320 is equipped with 512MB RAM, CompactFlash and SATA storage, PCI Express expansion, dual gigabit Ethernet ports, eight COM ports, and four USB 2.0 ports.

The PL-80320 — not to be confused with Win Enterprises' PL-80230 networking appliance — is designed for applications including industrial automation, kiosks, Point of Sales (PoS) systems, and digital signage, says the company. Housed in a "robust," sealed enclosure measuring just 8.6 x 5.6 x 2.7 inches, the fanless device is equipped with heat spreaders and supports operating temperatures from 32 to 104 deg. F, says Win Enterprises.

The computer is available in three SKUs based on different Via Technologies x86-compatible processors. These include a 1.3GHz Nano, as well as 500MHz and 1.0GHz versions of the earlier Eden processor, says Win Enterprises. A Via VX900 chipset is said to accompany all three processor options, enabling support for simultaneous dual displays on the VGA port and the LVDS interface.

Equipped with 512MB of RAM, the PL-80320 offers a CompactFlash Type II socket and a 2.5-inch hard disk drive (HDD) bay, presumably supported with an internal SATA port. A Mini-PCI Express slot is available for expansion, Win Enterprises adds.

Dual gigabit Ethernet ports are said to be supplied on the rear panel. Four USB 2.0 ports are split equally, front and back, with two more USB connection available internally, says the company. There are eight COM ports total, also split front and back, while HD audio is supported via three 3.5mm jacks, the company adds.
