Octagon is shipping a new EPIC form-factor single-board computer (SBC) targeting transportation, security, military, communications, SCADA, and other harsh environment applications. The XE-700 is powered by a 32-bit 5×86-class CPU, and is available with a Linux OS Embedder kit.

According to Octagon, the XE-700 can withstand 40g shock and 5g vibration, and can operate in -40 to +85 Celsius temperatures.

The XE-700 is based on an STMicroelectronics Atlas 5×86 CPU, clocked at 133MHz. The CPU can also be underclocked via a switch to 66MHz, Octagon says.

The XE-700 has 64MB of DRAM, and supports up to 8MB of CompactFlash on the primary EIDE controller. The secondary EIDE controller supports two devices. A floppy interface is also present. A video controller supports SVGA resolution with 9-, 12-, or 18-bit flat panels, or SXGA resolution with CRTs.

I/O ports include two USB ports, four serial ports supporting myriad configurations, a parallel port, 10/100 Ethernet, CRT and TFT video, PC/104 16-bit ISA bus expansion, and 24 lines of bit-programmable dedicated digital I/O with 16mA sink/source capability.

Availability

The XE-700 is available now from stock, priced at $495 singly, with volume discounts available. Also available are XE-700 OS Embedder kits (shown at right) for Linux 2.6, QNX, and DOS.
