Adlink announced a rugged PC/104-Plus SBC (single board computer) featuring single- or dual-core Atom processors and an onboard 4GB SSD (solid state disk). The CoreModule 745 accepts up to 2GB of RAM, has two SATA II ports, and sports three serial ports as well as gigabit Ethernet, the company says.

Branded "Ampro by Adlink" to indicate the contribution of the pioneering embedded firm Adlink acquired in 2008, the CoreModule 745 is a follow-on to the similarly named (and sized) CoreModule 740 that was announced last April. But, as we'll see, the device actually has significantly more functionality than its predecessor.

At 4.17 x 3.77 inches, the ReadyBoard 745 (above) is just slightly larger than the '740, but still is stackable with other PC/104-Plus devices, according to Adlink. The earlier SBC was only offered with a 1.66GHz Atom N450 processor and 512MB of soldered-on memory, but the '745 is offered with not only the N450, but also with the slightly higher performance D410 or the dual-core D510; meanwhile, a SODIMM slot accepts up to 2GB of RAM, the company says.

Still branded as an "extreme rugged" product, the ReadyBoard 745 is said to have the same operating temperature range (-4 to 158 deg. F standard, -40 to 185 deg. F extended) as the ReadyBoard 740, as well as being just as resistant to shock and vibration. But the newer SBC also includes a gigabit Ethernet controller, which wasn't standard on the earlier device.

Again with the ICH8M I/O controller, the ReadyBoard 745 now provides two onboard SATA ports, and adds an additional RS232/422/485 port to the two RS232 ports provided by the '740. The SBC further offers a 4GB SSD as standard, according to Adlink.

According to Adlink, the ReadyBoard 745 has four USB 2.0 ports, eight GPIOs, plus SMbus and LPC bus interfaces. Single-channel, 18-bit LVDS and analog VGA video outputs are provided, respectively offering 1600 x 1200 pixel or 1920 x 1440 pixel resolutions, the company adds.

As on the ReadyBoard 740, operating system support is said to include Linux, Windows CE 6,0, Windows XP Embedded, QNX 6.4, and VxWorks 6.7.
