Fanless industrial PC has Core 2 Duo, four expansion slots
Apr 28, 2011 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — 6 viewsAaeon has added to its line of fanless embedded controllers with a 1.86GHz Core 2 Duo-based model. The AEC-6924 has two DVI-I video outputs, two Ethernet ports, a CompactFlash slot, four RS232/422/485 serial ports, plus Mini PCI, PCI and PCI Express x1 expansion slots, the company says.
Aaeon's AEC-6924 is the latest in a long line of fanless embedded controllers. The one we most recently covered is the AEC-6625, released at the end of March with a 1.86GHz Celeron P4500 processor.
The AEC-6924 again uses a 1.86GHz CPU, but this time, it's the Core 2 Duo SL9400, which has dual cores and a 17-Watt TDP. The processor is combined here with the GS45 northbridge and ICH-9M southbridge, allowing installation of 4GB of DDR3 RAM in dual DIMM slots, according to Aaeon.

Aaeon says the AEC-6924 has a CompactFlash slot (externally accessible on the front panel) and also includes two Mini PCI slots and a bay (size unstated) for an SATA hard disk drive. Meanwhile, the rear panel (seen above) provides access to dual expansion slots: one PCI and one PCI Express x1.
The AEC-6924's rear panel also features two gigabit Ethernet ports, dual DVI-I ports, and four USB 2.0 ports. Around front, there are four DB9 connectors for RS232/422/485 ports, Aaeon adds.
According to Aaeon, the AEC-6924 may be operated in temperatures ranging from -4 to 158 deg. F. Input power, meanwhile, can range from 9 to 48VDC, the company says.
