Fanless PC has two expansion slots

Jun 16, 2011 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — 13 views

Adink announced a fanless embedded computer with a dual-core Core i7 processor and a cable-free design. The MXC-6000 offers up to 4GB of RAM, two CompactFlash slots, and room for two 2.5-inch hard drives, plus dual expansion slots — two PCI, or one PCI and one PCI Express x4, according to the company.

Adlink says its new MXC-6000 is an embedded PC that can accept either two PCI expansion cards (in model MXC-6101D) or one PCI card and one PCI Express x4 card (model MXC-6201D). Featuring a cable-free structure that "dramatically improves thermal stability," the device can run fanlessly from 14 to 140 deg. F when an industrial solid-state disk is used for storage, or from 32 to 122 deg. F with a hard disk drive, the company adds.

Adlink does allow that active heat dissipation might be required when "high power consumption" expansion cards are employed. In such cases, the MXC-6000 can be fitted with an optional, hot-pluggable fan, notes the company.

Adlink's MXC-6000

The MXC-6000 uses a 2010-model Core processor: the 2.0GHz, dual-core Core i7-620LE, which has dual CPU cores and a pretty thrifty 25-Watt TDP. This is accompanied by the QM57 chipset and 2GB or 4GB of RAM, according to Adlink.

For fixed storage, the MXC-6000 has dual CompactFlash slots (one externally accessible, one internal), plus two SATA ports that allow it to accept dual 2.5-inch hard disk drives. There's also an eSATA port for external storage, Adlink adds.

The MXC-6000's external I/O is all on its front panel, so the device may readily be shoved up against a wall or mounted on one. As pictured above, the PC offers two gigabit Ethernet ports, four USB 2.0 ports, four serial ports (two RS232 and two RS232/422/485), a DVI-I video output, two PS/2 ports, and audio jacks (mic in and speaker out). There's also a 9~32VDC power input and a connector for 16 digital inputs and 16 digital outputs, Adlink says.

The MXX-6000 further provides an internal USB 2.0 port, said to allow deployment of license keys or permit password encryption via a USB dongle. Adlink did not cite operating system support for the PC, but it should run pretty much any known x86 OS.
