Ibase has announced an industrial PC claimed to run fanlessly even with a 2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor on board. The AMI402 includes two PCI expansion slots, VGA and DVI video outputs, two gigabit Ethernet interfaces, plus IEEE 1394 and S/PDIF ports, the company says.

As we detail below, the AMI402 is based on a previously released, 6.7 x 6.7-inch Mini-ITX motherboard. However, the built-up system comes in a relatively bulky enclosure, with a height of 4.3 inches and a 10.37 x 8.9-inch footprint.

Apparently the aluminum/steel enclosure was selected for its thermal characteristics, since Ibase claims the AMI402 can run fanlessly with a 2.2GHz Intel T7500 processor, or other CPUs with TDPs of up to 35 Watts. The box also provides room for two 32-bit PCI expansion slots, according to the company.

Looking at the rear panel of the AMI402 (above) reveals a collection of ports, almost all of which derive directly from the "coastline" of the underlying MI910EF motherboard (below). Ibase has added a DVI port using its ID391-R adapter, plus a riser card that converts the main board's single PCI slot into two.

The MI910EF has a few listed attributes that may or may not be accessible by an AMI402 buyer. These include an IrDA port, a solder-side CompactFlash socket, a Mini PCI slot, a PCI Express x 1 interface, and four digital I/Os.

All the main board's other specs are carried over to the built-up device, however, including an IEEE 1394 port, an S/PDIF digital audio output, two gigabit Ethernet connectors, and a VGA output. PS/2 keyboard/mouse connectors and a total of six USB 2.0 ports are also provided, says Ibase.

In addition to the Core 2 Duo processor already mentioned, the AMI402 also supports Intel Celeron M CPUs via its GME965 northbridge and ICH8M southbridge, according to Ibase. Two DIMM sockets accept up to 4GB of DDR2 memory, while mass storage is provided by an available 2.5-inch hard disk drive.

Ibase says a second DVI output can be added to the AMI402 via an optional ID391D-R adapter. A second COM (RS232/422/485) port is also available, according to the company.
