LinuxWorld — (press release) — CollabNet, a leading provider of collaborative software development services based on Open Source principles, and Indrema Corporation, creator of the first Linux-based video game console and digital entertainment platform, today announced they will build the Indrema Developer Network (IDN), an online developer community and support network for the Indrema Entertainment… System (IES) platform.

The Indrema Developer Network will bring together the tools and community resources necessary to drive development of next-generation video game titles for the IES. The IES is Indrema's Linux-based video game and digital home entertainment platform that offers the most comprehensive range of TV-based home entertainment applications, including high performance 3D gaming, DVD, broadband Internet connectivity, personal music library, Web browsing, email and personal TV.

The site will feature an online collaborative development engine built on CollabNet's SourceCast platform-a complete solution comprised of Open Source tools and proven development practices, which have been customized to enable global collaborative software development projects. SourceCast will allow Indrema to present a cohesive Web-based, Open Source development platform that offers simple, powerful and intuitive access to features including: code versioning, source code browsing, automatic change notification, mailing lists and discussion forums and issue tracking Web administration. The IDN will also include the official Indrema Entertainment Software Development Kit (IESDK), platform and SDK information and documentation, technical resources, source code repository, management services, certification submission and status tracking.

“CollabNet is helping Indrema remove the barriers to entry into the console market for new video game developers by creating a full service network that offers an extensive array of resources and tools, making development for the IES faster, easier and less expensive than any other platform,” said John Gildred, Indrema's founder and CEO. “We are opening up the software architecture allowing developers to own the code; the IDN makes sure they have everything they need to cultivate a universal standard for game development.”

CollabNet and Indrema will jointly promote the benefits of using Open Source components, such as those leveraged in the IES, to drive rapid growth and quality assurance in a universal standard for video game and other multimedia content development.

“Indrema and CollabNet share a singular vision for promoting Open Source initiatives,” said Bill Portelli, president and CEO of CollabNet. “This announcement demonstrates that Open Source can expand beyond enterprise software development to advance the state of innovative technology such as home digital entertainment. We believe our work with Indrema will serve as a catalyst for additional Open Source multimedia development.”

IDN is part of a software-and-services infrastructure that Indrema is assembling to ensure that next-generation game developers enjoy a robust and scalable development platform for IES console game development. The Indrema Developer Network officially launches October 1, 2000.
