LinuxWorld — (press release) — Indrema Corporation, creator of the first Linux-based video game console and digital entertainment platform, and Red Hat, Inc., the leader in Open Source Internet infrastructure, today announced that the companies have formed an alliance to jointly manage branding and distribution of DV Linux, an upcoming universal standard operating system for console video gaming and… TV-based entertainment applications.

The DV Linux distribution will include technology developed by Red Hat and Indrema, and it will provide the necessary components to produce a world class gaming platform for consumer electronics. Indrema will become the first to adopt the DV Linux standard with the release of its Indrema Entertainment System (IES) video game console and software development kit, which incorporates the Open Source DV Linux architecture.

The Red Hat and Indrema partnership will ensure that a universal standard for next-generation video game development emerges to avoid fragmentation in the various Open Source multimedia initiatives. Additionally it will establish necessary development and support mechanisms to assist consumer electronics manufacturers in bringing IES-ready products to market.

The combination of DV Linux and the IES runtime engine and hardware reference design enables unlimited potential for entertainment software applications for consumer electronics. The first such product to market is the Indrema L600 high-performance video game system, the first console to include graphics chip upgradeability via the GPU Slide Bay® technology.
