Industrial ATX board runs Linux on Core 2 Duo
Sep 11, 2006 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — viewsPortwell is shipping a ruggedized ATX board with a “Core 2 Duo” socket said to support “all Intel mainstream desktop processors.” The Ruby-9716VGAR features an LGA-775 processor socket, along with PCI Express, gigabyte Ethernet, and SATA interfaces. It supports embedded Linux.

Intel announced its “Core 2 Duo” branding effort in May, saying the brand would be used with both mobile and desktop chips, which it said would share a common microarchitecture, going forward.
According to Portwell, the Ruby board's “Core 2 Duo” LGA-775 socket supports Pentium D, Pentium 4, and Celeron D processors. The company says this offers an upgrade path through “dual core, hyper-threading, EM64T, EIST, and XD & VT technologies.”

Availability
The Ruby-9716VGAR is available now. A Ruby-9716VGA model similar to the Ruby-9716VGAR but without SATA is also available. Pricing was not disclosed.
