Axiomtek announced a PICMG 1.3 single board computer (SBC) supporting the Intel Core i7, Core i5, Core i3, and Celeron processors. The SHB111 has four PCI slots, four PCIe slots, one PCIe x16 slot, plus dual gigabit Ethernet, six SATA, and 14 USB 2.0 ports.

Axiomtek's SHB111 is suitable for applications including DVR, industrial automation, visual inspection, and CNC (computed numerically controlled) machines, says Axiomtek. Measuring 13.3 x 4.96 inches, the SHB111 adheres to the venerable PICMG 1.3 format. (PICMG 1.3 defines pin-outs for the ISA and parallel PCI Express buses to the backplane; the older PICMG 1.0 instead assigns PCI for the parallel buses.)

A follow-on to Axiomtek PICMG 1.3 SBCs such as the circa-2008 SHB102, which ran Intel Core 2 Quad and Core 2 Duo processors, the SHB111 instead supports Socket G compatible processors including the new Intel Core i7, i5, and i3 processors as well as the Celeron.

The SHB111 SBC employs an Intel QM57 Express chipset, and supports 4MB Intel Smart Cache, hyper-threading technology, turbo mode, and QuickPath technologies, says Axiomtek.

Two DIMM sockets can house up to 8GB of DDR3 800/1066MHz SDRAM, says the company. A CompactFlash socket is also said to be provided. The SBC supports up to six SATA ports with integrated RAID 0, 1, 5, 10 function and transfer rates up to 3Gbps.

The SBC provides four PCI slots, four PCIe x1 or one PCIe x4, and one PCIe x16 routed to the backplane, says Axiomtek. Display output options include VGA, LVDS, and an optional DisplayPort, says the company.

The SHB111 is equipped with dual gigabit Ethernet controllers, as well as interfaces for 14 USB 2.0 ports and two RS-232 ports, says Axiomtek. Other interfaces are said to be provided for HD audio, as well as PS/2 keyboard and mouse ports.

A "smart fan" function controls fan speed to keep temperature within a specified range, says Axiomtek. The SBC is rated to withstand 32 to 140 deg. F (0 to 60 deg. C) temperatures, says the company.
