Insignia Solutions announces beta of J2ME/CDC VM

Fremont, CA — (press release excerpt) — Insignia Solutions today announced completion of a beta implementation of Jeode technology for the Java 2 Platform, Micro Edition (J2ME) Connected Device Configuration (CDC) / Foundation Profile, and is actively seeking beta customers. In related news, the company has completed a three-year licensing agreement with Sun Microsystems that gives Insignia the right to develop and market J2ME products, based on the CDC and Connected Limited Device Configuration (CLDC).

The Jeode platform enables accelerated and robust Java technology-based functionality on information appliances. It incorporates the Jeode EVM runtime engine, a “Sun Authorized Virtual Machine” that is fully compatible with the PersonalJava and EmbeddedJava specifications.

Key attributes include:

  • Industry leading accelerated performance and efficient memory utilization through patent-pending dynamic adaptive compilation (DAC) and precise, concurrent garbage collection technologies
  • Configurability and tunability to meet the diverse
  • A turn-key software solution already ported and tested on popular OS and microprocessor combinations:
    • Operating systems include Linux, BSDI Unix, ITRON, Nucleus, pSOS, VxWorks, Windows CE and Windows NT4
    • Microprocessors include ARM, Hitachi SH-3 and SH-4, Intel x86, MIPS, PowerPC, and StrongARM
A member of the Java Community Process (JCP), Insignia has been recently ratified through the JCP elections process to continue as a member of the JCP Micro Edition Executive Committee for a three-year term.
