Intel net processors, Linux power new Radisys telecom hardware

According to Radisys, the trio of new products — all designed to do heavy lifting in telecom/datacom applications — include: the industry's first dual processor Processor PMC (PrPMC) based… on the Intel IXC1100 control plane processor; the industry's first fully integrated PICMG 2.16, dual OC-3c ATM-to-IP gateway line card; and the industry's first fully integrated, CompactPCI PICMG 2.16 platform. All three support Linux-based operation, Radisys said.
Here are descriptions (from Radisys) of the three new products . . .
ENP-3504 — an intelligent packet-processing engine, ideal for use in products that monitor and test OC-3c lines for ATM data and RNC applications, at wire speed. The ENP-3504 offers OEMs a high performance solution by providing protocol acceleration in a network processor. The ENP-3504 is equipped with an Intel IXP network processor with StrongARM core and six multithreaded microengines, which are capable of wire speed packet analysis, processing and forwarding. The card features eight 10/100 Base T Ethernet connections, which are accessible through a rear transition module. The ENP-3504 also provides a dual OC-3c optical interface to the IXP network via an OC-3c daughter card (PMC). The ENP-3504 features two PICMG 2.16 compliant 10/100 Ethernet ports to enable redundancy. Software for the ENP-3504 includes firmware, bearer-plane applications for the IXP1240, a Linux support package and support for development tools. SYS50 — an ideal system for high availability applications such as signaling, media gateways, VoIP gateways, switching and routing functions, billing servers and storage servers including HLR and VLR. In addition to providing PICMG 2.16 compliance, high availability and legacy CompactPCI support, the RadiSys SYS50 offers high density in a 9U package. Up to 52 CompactPCI slots can be configured with CPU cards, I/O cards or media modules when configured in a typical 40U high frame. The SYS50 also features shelf management, which has been integrated into the switch, meaning there is no need for a separate Chassis Management Module (CMM). The RadiSys SYS50 also supports PCI and switched blades easing the migration path from PCI to switched backplanes. Additionally, the SYS50 supports H.110 and can be configured as a compute or storage server. MontaVista Carrier Grade Linux 3.0 is pre-installed.
EXS-6424 — the PICMG 2.15 compliant EXS-6424 meets the demanding needs of mid-range control plane applications used in broadband access and edge service markets. The EXS-6424 provides outstanding CPU power, in a small package, and is ideal for processor-intensive applications such as control plane processing for intelligent line cards and content and signaling blades for broadband access (Intelligent DSLAM), metro routers, edge service switches (MSS/IP service switch) and 2.5/3G wireless (BTS/Node B, BCS/RNC, MSC, GGSN, SGSN). The EXS-6424 offers two independent IXC1100 processors operating at 533MHz, each with up to 256 MB ECC SDRAM. The PrPMC is available in either a single or dual processor configuration. With two independent processors, the EXS-6424 provides significant processing capability and when combined with software, the processors can also be used in a soft symmetric multi-processing configuration. To maximize I/O bandwidth and enable OEMs to improve performance and time- to-market, the RadiSys EXS-6424 supports two 10/100 BaseT Ethernet ports to the front panel and two 10/100 BaseT Ethernet ports to the baseboard (as per PICMG 2.15), as well as 32 bit/66 MHz PCI bus connectivity. Supports popular embedded operating systems including Linux and VxWorks.
