These microprocessor architectures involve multiple business units within Intel. Further details of the investment were undisclosed.

Said Jim Ready, MontaVista Software CEO, “The additional capital will be used to help us to speed up the introduction of new products and to expand our sales and support. We believe there is strong market confidence in embedded Linux as an operating system of choice for everything from small and emerging pervasive computing devices to telecommunications infrastructure systems and that open-source development is a solid business model.”
The Sunnyvale, Calif.-based company offers a “pure,” open-source and royalty-free Linux distribution targeted at embedded-system applications. It augments its distribution with support and professional services.
