Intel’s XScale-based I/O processor garners NetBSD support

NetBSD runs on nearly fifty distinct architectures, representing fifteen CPU families. In keeping with open source practices, the source code will be committed to the NetBSD source tree upon completion.
The announcement of the new I/O processor coincides with Wasabi?s announcement of NetBSD performance enhancements for processors based on the Intel XScale Microarchitecture. The enhancements include acceleration of software RAID and support for the onboard performance monitoring facilities, adding to the advantages of NetBSD in storage applications.
Wasabi also announced support for Team ASA's single board NPWR storage appliance, based on Intel?s IOP310 I/O processor. Wasabi plans on supporting the full range of XScale-based processors and solutions in the next few months, including network processors and portable information appliances.
