Lineo Solutions is offering an enhanced embedded Linux BSP (board support package) for a MIPS64-based mini-ITX reference board. Lineo said its uLinux ELite BSP CodeSourcery Edition for Toshiba's RBTX4938 single-board computer (SBC) lets users run pre-tested packages and obtain… support from either Lineo or CodeSourcery.

The RBTX4938 reference design is a mini-ITX design powered by a MIPS64-based Toshiba TX4938 SoC (system-on-chip). The SBC has served as the basis for at least one Linux-based reference design from Toshiba America Electronic Components (TAEC) and Sigma Designs.

Lineo's new BSP for the RBTX4938 comes pre-integrated with CodeSourcery's “Sourcery G++” toolchain. Based on GNU tools, CodeSourcery's G++ toolchains feature added processor-specific optimizations and testing, and available commercial support, according to Lineo.

Lineo lists features of its RBTX4938 BSP as follows:

• Linux kernel version 2.6.18.8
• gcc-mips-4.1.2 (Sourcery G++ 4.1-54)
• binutils-mips-2.17 (Sourcery G++ 4.1-54)
• glibc-2.5 (Sourcery G++ 4.1-54)
• 48 packages:
  • busybox-1.4.2-1cs
  • gdb-6.6.50.20070320-4.1_54cs_mips
  • filesystem-2.3.4-1cs
  • etc.

Additionally, the BSP includes updates to Sourcery G++ during the contract period, Lineo said.

Availability

The Lineo uLinux ELITE BSP CodeSourcery Edition is available now, priced at 1,600,000 JPY, excluding tax (approx. $13,000). System requirements include Fedora Core 4/6, and a PC with a 2GHz or faster Pentium 4 or better processor, 256MB of RAM, and 2GB of free hard drive space (10GB recommended).

Lineo also offers Sourcery G++ BSPs for ARM-based boards.

For its part, CodeSourcery recently contributed a MIPS pre-linker to the open source community.
