Linux in industry: Multi-camera computer vision system
Dec 19, 1997 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — viewsAdvanced Developments in Electronics and Software (ADES) used embedded Linux and open source networking software to reduce the cost of its multi-camera computer vision and control system by 25 percent, while still meeting customer expectations. ADES also uses embedded Linux and open source software to miniaturize the automation components and manufacturing systems that it designs and implements in… factories and plants.
ADES's typical customer is the production unit where the process is specific enough to justify custom developments, retrofits, feasibility studies, and prototyping work, or where the customer has built its line from components and cannot turn to the “turn key” contractor for enhancements or integration work.
