MontaVista leagues with Renesas on Linux mobiles
Nov 25, 2003 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — viewsMontaVista Software has joined the Super-SH Consortium and will work with Renesas on OEM reference designs that use Renesas's SH-Mobile-V processors and run MontaVista's Consumer Electronics Edition (CEE) embedded Linux distribution.
Renesas was spun out of a joint venture between Hitachi and Mitsubishi in April, 2003. Its SuperH chips are popular in a range of mobile devices, including PDAs and mobile phones.
“The mobile phone market has been rapidly gravitating toward Linux away from proprietary platforms in key markets worldwide. This is especially true in Japan and China, two of the largest and fastest growing markets for mobile devices,” said Ikuya Kawasaki, department manager of SOC Design Dept.6, SOC Div., MCU&SOC Business Unit, Renesas Technology.
