MontaVista Linux gains CORBA ORB
Oct 8, 2003 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — 1 viewsObjective Interface Systems and MontaVista Software have jointly announced the release of Objective Interface's ORBexpress RT C++ for MontaVista Linux Professional Edition. The companies claim the new object request broker (ORB) combines high-performance with extreme reliability and a small footprint. Targeted applications include telecommunications, data communications, industrial automation, consumer electronics, military, and aerospace.
ORBexpress RT is based on the Object Management Group's (OMG's) standard CORBA technology. It provides developers with a fast, full-featured alternative to in-house proprietary communication protocols, according to MontaVista and Objective, simplifying development of distributed software applications.
Steve Grimaldi, Objective Interface chief operating officer, says, “Initially, developers are exploiting the combination to produce deterministic, real-time, software-defined radio applications. In the future, there is also the potential to use our integrated products for telecommunication systems-based carrier-grade Linux applications.”
Bill Weinberg, director of strategic marketing for MontaVista Software, notes “ORBexpress can ease distributed application programming among processes on the same board as well as across multiple boards. Moreover, it lets applications seamlessly interoperate across operating systems and programming languages.”
ORBexpress RT C++ for MontaVista Linux is available now from Objective Interface as a named developer license that includes one year of technical support and maintenance. At deployment, ORBexpress RT C++ imposes no run-time license fees.
