NeoMagic unveils Linux-supported multimedia SOC

Jul 10, 2001 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — views

Santa Clara, CA — (press release excerpt) — NeoMagic Corporation today announced its MiMagic (pronounced “my-magic”) product family. Members of this product family provide true System-on-Chip (SOC) integration, combining a 32-bit RISC processor, 4MB of embedded DRAM, high-performance graphics, audio, and video capability, USB host controller,… and a balanced mix of peripherals on a single chip. This combination on a single integrated circuit supports next-generation handheld Internet appliances, providing rich multimedia features without sacrificing low power and small form factor.

NeoMagic selected the open source BlueCat Linux operating system from LynuxWorks and Qt/Embedded (embedded Linux port of Qt) and applications from Trolltech as the first software suite for the MiMagic SOC family. This combination allows NeoMagic to provide customers with a working development platform with exceptional functionality at a reasonable cost.

A summary of specifications of the MiMagic SOCs is available here, and the complete press release issued today is available here.
