New Intel IXP42x network processors gain embedded Linux commitment

Intel says its latest integrated network processors, the IXP420/421/422, serve the needs of a broad range of high-performance yet cost-sensitive applications, ranging from home gateways, small office/home office (SOHO) routers and wireless access points, and “integrated access devices” (IADs), to industrial control and networked imaging applications. In particular, the copmany says the IXP422 is intended to meet the security needs of networked systems with embedded look-aside encryption/decryption engines.
MontaVista Linux already includes support for the Intel IXP425. Support for the new Intel IXP42x network processors will be released shortly after Intel begins shipping the new chips, the company said.
