San Jose, CA — (press release excerpt) — Artis Microsystems has just introduced a Motorola PowerPC based development platform, the SBC-A3000. Targeted at hardware and software developers, it features a highly integrated 333MHz MPC8245 Microprocessor with G2 core, 10/100 Mbit Ethernet controller, three PCI slots, serial ports, and 8 or 16 Mbytes of Flash memory. A standard onboard DIMM socket can accommodate off-the-shelf SDRAM modules (PC-100 or PC-133) from 64MB to 512MB. Due to the microprocessor's high level of integration, the board is very reliable and small (7.5 x 6.8 in.). It can be mounted in any standard ATX chassis.

The onboard Flash memory comes loaded with board diagnostics, DENX PPCBoot 1.15, MontaVista Embedded Linux distribution kernel patched with Artis specific BSP and Ethernet drivers, and Ramdisk.

Artis Microsystems provides five hours of free technical support for the loaded firmware, which consists of DENX PPCBoot and 2.4.19 MontaVista Embedded Linux distribution kernel, patched with Artis specific BSP and Ethernet drivers. An extended tech support program as well as custom Embedded Linux ports are also available for a fee. The RAMDISK includes 6.5 MB of compressed binaries, including an FTP server, VI, Telnet, etc.
